Golf Review SilverStone Golf Club

Silverstone Golf Club has made some dramatic changes to this multi-course facility since they opened in 2001. This facility features three 9-hole golf courses that were all designed by Bob Cupp - the Valley, Mountain and Desert courses. The golf courses are built around the Silverstone Ranch housing development and add a great amenity to the community. This golf course is open to the public and is located about 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip.

Silverstone is definitely one of the most demanding golf courses in Las Vegas. This observation is based mainly on the length of many of the holes. Depending on which of the nines you play, the golf course can stretch to over 7,200 yards in length. Of the six par-5's, four of them are over 600 yards, and although the hard Las Vegas ground allows the ball to roll, these are still very difficult holes.

The most difficult of the par-5's is the 3rd hole on the Mountain Course. This hole measures 653 yards and claims the distinction as the longest hole in the state of Nevada. The hole plays slightly downhill, but don't expect to get anywhere near this green in two shots. The best target off the tee is down the middle of the fairway, but it is always best to favor the right side. This will leave the best angle for the approach shot.

The second shot must avoid the water on the left-hand side of the fairway - choose instead to favor the right side. Most golfers will be left with between 180-120 yards to the green. There are tall palm trees located on the banks of the pond that can block an approach shot to the green if your ball ends up too far left.

This is a very difficult green to hit, especially if you are hitting into the breeze. Although the green is long, it is fairly narrow, so be sure to take enough club to reach the middle of the green. If you are short here your ball will find the water. The green slopes toward the water and the grass around the green is kept short, shots pulled left will have little chance of stopping before the water. Par on this hole is great score. My advice here is to play this hole conservatively - don't try for too much.

Recently Silverstone made some significant renovations to the golf course that have made it so much better. In order to conserve water, some turf areas have been replaced with desert landscaping. Not only does this enhance the visual qualities of the golf course, but it makes many of the holes more difficult off the tee. In addition, they have just recently updated their GPS System which now features Wi-Fi coverage to improve the accuracy of the yardages. Silverstone is the first golf course in Las Vegas to have this technology.

Right now the weather in Las Vegas is perfect and Silverstone Golf Club is in great shape. This is a fantastic golf course for both men and women. There are several sets of tees that make the golf course very playable, no matter your handicap. This is a great golf course for couples or for golfers who are just starting out in the game. Although the changes have narrowed the golf course a little, the fairways are still very generous and the greens are large.
