Painted Desert Golf Course in Great Condition

Painted Desert Golf Club is one of the best-conditioned golf courses in Las Vegas, in a recent outing of mine, I found the greens are lighting fast and the fairways have grown-in nicely from the overseeding season. Local Las Vegas golfer Todd Henderson says, “I like Painted Desert because it’s in great condition and I have a chance to make some money with the group I play with.”

As one of the first Target Golf Courses in Las Vegas, Painted Desert is a real shot-making test, desert areas guard both sides of most fairways and bunkers further tighten the landing areas. Water is an important feature at Painted Desert and comes into play on holes where you would think aggressiveness is the play. Be sure to check the scorecard on the 7th hole to determine what club is best off this tee. Although this hole is short, I wouldn't mess with trying to drive this green or you might find a watery grave left of the green.

What makes Painted Desert fun to play is the variety of holes and shots that it presents. Many of the par-3's are beasts while several of the par-4's give aggressive players the chance to drive the green and make a much needed birdie. Accuracy is far more important on this golf course than distance. Painted Desert measures slightly over 6,800 yards and by modern standards is quite short, but don't let this fool you, you can't let your guard down on this golf course.

Painted Desert has medium sized greens that tend to be guarded by large bunkers and mounds. Chipping is made difficult not only by the speed of the greens but by the undulations in many of them. Your best bet when playing this golf course is to leave the driver in the bag and take fairway clubs from the tee to best position your golf ball. The fairways at Painted Desert are usually firm and provide lots of roll from the tee. If you are looking for a great golf course at a reasonable price, then Painted Desert is a great option. This golf course is located about 30 minutes from the Strip but is well worth the drive.
