JW Marriott Las Vegas

Built on 54 acres, the lush landscapes and beautiful grounds make the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort and Spa a true oasis in the desert. The JW Marriott company took control of this property six years ago and have turned it into a retreat for those looking for rest and relaxation.

This resort is great for families who want to shield their children from the gaming atmosphere. There is access to the hotel without ever having to see the gaming areas. There are 548 rooms in the hotel and each has been furnished with the high- quality items guests have come to expect from JW Marriott.

The property was built with a European flare and this can be seen in all of the rooms. Each room contains a ceiling fan with a classic molding and all the room entrances are tiled and elongated. This extended entrance puts the living area as far as possible from the high traffic hallways outside.

Each of the bathrooms is done in marble with both a jacazzi tub and shower. The showers are fitted with a soothing raindrop shower head that gently drips water onto the guest. All of these amenities are included in the standard rooms. There are several other larger suites which take elegance to a whole new level.

Lisa Roughley says "the best features of the resort are the grounds, world-class spa and the many golf courses that are in the area." Guests are able to walk around the grounds and admire the attention to detail. Walking into the large pool area, guests are greeted by a waterfall that hides a secluded cave. The pool has 12 cabanas surrounding it that can be rented out for a day by the pool. There are volleyball and bocchi ball courts well within reach of the pool which make for a great diversion. If you are looking for a light snack the Water Side Cafe is open to serve small snacks and lunch.

One of the newest areas on the grounds is the meditiation garden. This area has been specially designed for group and solo meditiation. There are lush tropical plants and several water features that enhance this area. A number of statues give the impression you have been transported to Asia. In the future there will even be yoga and other classes taught in this tranquil garden.

The JW Marriott has several restaurants on property, each with their own unique flare. For a taste of authentic Irish food you need to visist J.C. Wooloughan's Irish Pub. The interior of this restaurant looks like it came right out of a Harry Potter movie. This Pub was brought over from Ireland piece by piece and faithfully recreated here.

Shizan is the new Japanese restaurant on the property that is open only for dinner. In this restaurant you can choose from either sushi or a teppanyaki table. Teppanyaki tables are very entertaining and a great way to treat the family for dinner. The sushi bar contains a wide variety of fresh seafood all prepared in the traditional fashion.

One of the main features of the resort is the European Spa, the Aquae Sulis Spa, on the property. This is a great chance to unwind after a long day on the golf course. Aquae Suis is a full-service spa that offers massage, exercise and a full-service salon. At the front of the spa is fitness area where guest can have a vigorous workout to start the day.

When getting a massage it is best to arrive about 45-60 minutes early to enjoy the ritual room. As you enter the spa you will be directed to your own personal locker and are able to change into more comfortable clothes. The ritual room contains a steam room, suana and hot and cold plunge tanks. These are great for relaxing the body and getting ready for your massage.

About five minutes prior to the massage you will be escorted to the upper levels and the massage rooms. Here the atmosphere is very relaxed with soothing, nature music playing and reduced lighting to enhance the mood. The staff here is very professional and will be able to work out any tension you might have accumulated through the course of the day. The swedish massage and foot massage is a great combination to end the day.

Only 25 minutes northwest of the Las Vegas Strip, the JW Marriott is located right in the center of a golf mecca in the community of Summerlin. TPC Canyons, Badlands Golf Club and Angel Park Golf Club are a few of the nearby golf courses. TPC Canyons is the home of the Frys.com Open on the PGA Tour and gives golfers a chance to play where the pros play.

In addition to golf there are also great shopping and outdoor activities near the hotel. Red Rock Canyon is a favorite area for hikers with numerous trails and activities. Boca Park is a great place to get in some shopping, with many fine stores including the Pottery Barn, Wiliam and Sonoma and a Banana Republic.

If you are looking for a hotel that is away from the crowds and a complete resort, the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort is a great choice.
