Course Review of Silverstone Golf Club

Las Vegas, NV is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. With all of this growth it is no wonder that golf is growing at the same pace. Year after year the quantity and quality of the golf courses in Las Vegas is reaching new heights. Housing has become the focal point of this explosive growth. All over the valley you find housing communities that have golf courses attached to them.

Silverstone Golf Club is one of the finest golf facilities Southern Nevada has to offer. Located on the property are three nine hole golf courses. Each has its own flavor and flair, but when combined they create an exotic golfing experience.

Located in Northwest Las Vegas, these courses where designed by Robert Cupp. Robert Cupp is a well known architect who has designed over 100 golf courses across the world. His most famous course is Pumpkin Ridge, located in Oregon. Pumpkin Ridge has been the site of the US Women's Open and Tiger Wood's won a US Amateur title on this golf course. It is no surprise that Cupp has created a challenge golf course for all skill levels.

There are 6 home collections located in side Silverstone Ranch. Each of these developments features a different style of home. From luxurious townhomes to golf course homesites, there is no shortage of housing available in the ranch. Several of the communities include clubhouses and pools for use by the residents.

The clubhouse located at Silverstone Golf Club is one of the best themed in Las Vegas, NV. The main entrance of the clubhouse is adorned with fountains and tile work which gives it a unmistakeable Mediterranean feel. Water, off the golf course, always has a claming effect and this courtyard makes the guest feel welcomed.

The clubhouse has locker rooms for both members and guests. As you walk in through the main entrance, the open spaces of the clubhouse will take you by surprise. The main lobby opens into the bar and restaurant areas which are bordered by ceiling to floor windows. These windows allow the diners to see the beauty of the golf courses as they eat. Before or after your round, you should experience the wonderful food this restaurant has to offer.

Silverstone Golf Club has a fully stocked pro shop. Located just to the left of the main lobby you will be able to purchase any items you might have left at the hotel or need to complete your round of golf. Offering a full selection of clubs, shoes, balls and clothing much of which has the Silverstone logo on it.

Not only are the golf courses stunning, but the practice area will help you to improve your game. This is one of the few full service practice areas in Las Vegas. The driving range is huge. There are some many stalls on this range you will never have to wait for a spot. On certain days, during the hot summer months, they even have a movable canopy that provides shade as you hit range balls. This is a great addition as the temperatures can climb to well over 100 degrees during the summer months. Although hitting range balls in the summer heat is a great weight loss technique.

To compliment this driving range you will find a practice bunker and chipping area. This area provides a wide variety of lies and shots to simulate anything you might encounter on the golf course. Balls are provided and there is a ball collection tool that will help you pile the balls.

The putting green is large with many hole locations. Often times golf courses will limit the number of pin positions on a practice putting green to protect the green. Silverstone's green is so large they are able to provide additional holes and still maintain the integrity of the green.

The three golf courses located at Silverstone are named the Desert, Valley and Mountain. Each displays its own character but all the course will weave between the homes that line the fairways. All of the golf carts at Silverstone are equipped with the latest GPS system which gives you precise distances to all of the major features on the golf course.

Length is extremely important at Silverstone. The Mountain nine has the longest par-5 in the state of Nevada. The third hole is 653 yards. This is not the only long par-5 on this golf course, 4 out of the six par-5 stretch to over 600 yards from the back tee. Making a birdie on one of these holes is a reward indeed.

Adam Owen, General Manager at Silverstone, recently decided to make some improvements to the golf courses to enhance the overall experience. He says, "We recently spent over 2 million dollars to enhance the borders of the golf course. We used a red decomposed granite to create a contrast between the desert areas and the grass." This process should be completed around the golf course by the middle of July, 2007. The addition of the granite makes the desert areas easier and more consistent to play out of.

Mr. Owen also indicated they are in the process of formulating reduced rates and food and beverage specials for the summer months. These specials will be made available for both the local players and the resort guests. Keep checking our website to find out about this smoking summer specials.

Silverstone Golf Club is a classic desert-style golf course. The golf course has numerous bunkers, but because it is located in a housing development you will not find the rugged desert terrain as on other golf courses. The generous fairways and medium sized greens make for a great golfing experience.

One of the most memorable holes on the golf courses is the 9th hole on the Mountain course. This is one of the most challenging holes I have ever played. This par-5 is 616 yards from the back tee. There is water all the way down the left-hand side. From the tee to the green, your eye focuses on the huge hazard to the left. Getting off the tee is only half of the battle. If you manage to find the fairway be careful on your lay-up shot. Any shot hit left will find the water. The fairway near the green slopes to the left, and with the tightly mowed fairways, accuracy is the key.

Silverstone is not only a great place to golf but has wonderful space for weddings and evening functions. The clubhouse is 34,000 sq. ft. and the banquet facility can hold up to 500 people. They even have a grass area for weddings that is separate from the golf course.

Silverstone Golf Club is located close to major shopping areas, so after your round you can bring a gift back to your sweetheart. Sometimes you have to give a peace offering for playing golf. Many restaurants are also located in this area. One of my personal favorites is Red Robin. Red Robin is a family restaurant with locations all over the United States. They are one of the few restaurants that offer an unlimited basket of fries with most sandwiches.

Good luck and happy golfing!!!
