Tuscan Paradise at Siena Golf Club

Siena Golf Club opened its doors back in 1999 and has quickly become one of the most enjoyable golf courses to play in Las Vegas. What makes Siena most unique to the desert, is the special type of grass utilized throughout the golf course that allows the golf course to skip the usual overseeding schedule.

Siena Golf Club offers a wonderful variety of golf holes, which makes it challenging, yet not so much that your day on the golf course leaves you frustrated and unsatisfied. Many players often rave about the variety of holes which combined with excellent conditions year round, makes the golf course a significant addition to any plan to golf in Las Vegas. Siena offers a great mixture of short and long holes which makes going low on the scorecard a real possibility. If you get the right bounce and find the right section of the green, you will really get a boost on what will already be an enjoyable day.

Surprisingly there are several elevation changes on Siena and many of the greens are raised. Hitting shots onto the green can become a challenge, if you happen to hit the front of the green with lots of spin you might find yourself looking at a pin 25 feet above you. Hitting blind shots on your chips tends to become the norm rather than the exception.

Mastering the short game is the key to playing Siena Golf Club well - not only around the greens, but also among the fairway bunkers, which can be a bit scary. Not since the days of the British Open have I seen bunkers with such large faces. Many times the best play is out and away from the pin just to get the ball into a reasonable area.

While not the longest golf course in Las Vegas, at only 6,800 yards, Siena Golf Club is a fun track to play. The golf course was designed by the team of Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley who have done a great job of testing the better player while providing room for error for the high handicapper.

After you finish your round of golf you might I recommend a stop into Siena Grill for a quick bite to eat. This is a great restaurant for not only drinks but some of the best food you will find on any golf course. The dining area of the club looks directly out onto Lake Siena which when the sun catches it right makes you feel like you are in a Tuscan paradise.
